I’ve just hit 24000kms and wondered how efficient my Model S is compared to my old VW Golf:

Tesla Model S 75D = 200Wh/km

1 litre of diesel fuel = 40MJ = 11.1kWh
VW Golf = 5.5l/100km = 61.05kWh/100km
VW Golf = 610Wh/km

… considerably more efficient. If my Tesla was to have the same stored energy as the 55l tank of my VW it’d have a battery capacity of 610.5kWh and a range of over 3000kms (assuming the increase in battery capacity didn’t also increase the weight of the Tesla :))
